Savannah Concrete Pads & Slabs

A pad cut to whatever rests on it and built for the ground beneath it: carried on structural fiber and welded wire mesh for the load, and drained so a high tidal water table and surge rain leave it be.

How we build it right

The process behind concrete pads & slabs built to last

Credibility comes from how it's built, not from promises. Here's the order of operations on every concrete pads & slabs job.

01

Prepping a base in coastal sand

We shape and pack the base over Savannah's soft coastal-plain sand so the slab spreads weight flat and will not settle once the load lands, even on the stretches near the marsh where the ground turns soft and the water table runs close under.

02

Sizing depth to the load

Slab depth follows whatever sits on top. The pad under a garden shed and the floor under a shop full of trucks are two different builds, not the same pour scaled up.

03

Fiber and mesh, with rebar by load

The typical pad rides on structural fiber and welded wire mesh, which is how coastal Georgia flatwork is built. Only a genuinely heavy or structural load, common enough near the port, brings a steel rebar grid into it, because that is rebar's purpose, not a light residential pad left out in coastal salt air.

04

Vapor barrier and drainage

On enclosed or conditioned slabs we lay a vapor barrier against the moisture a high tidal water table drives upward, and we grade the surroundings so storm and surge water sheds off instead of soaking into the base.

05

Placing, jointing, and curing

We place the mix, saw the control joints, and cure with Savannah heat and salt humidity in mind so the slab sets evenly clear across the surface.

Why Lucky's

The one you don't have to worry about

01

We answer, and we come back

Most contractors vanish after the deposit. We pick up the phone, show up when we say, and stand behind the work after the truck leaves. The follow-through is the difference.

02

Managed crews, our name on it

A foreman we know runs your job and a vetted crew does the work, managed by Lucky's, one company accountable from the first call to the final walkthrough.

03

Fully insured, paperwork-ready

COI and lien waivers on file before we break ground. The documentation that lets commercial clients pay and gives homeowners peace of mind.

04

Built right, not cheap

Prepped subgrade, reinforced and mixed to spec for the job, and proper curing. We build credibility through the process, not promises. On concrete pads & slabs, that starts with prepping a base in coastal sand.

FAQ

Savannah concrete pads & slabs, answered

How much does a concrete slab cost in Savannah?

Pads and slabs price to the load and the ground: reinforcement matched to the use, a base packed over a high tidal water table, and a grade that sheds water off. For an honest opening figure, most pads and slabs come in around $7 to $13 a square foot, with thickness and any vapor barrier nudging it. We size and price the pad against whatever it has to carry.

What reinforcement goes in a slab here?

On most residential pads we run structural fiber through the batch and welded wire mesh across the slab, which is routine coastal Georgia flatwork. When the load turns genuinely heavy or structural, a shop floor parking trucks or a pad near the port being the clear case, a steel rebar grid goes in, because hauling that kind of weight is the job rebar was made for. We match the reinforcement to the load in front of us instead of packing a light pad with steel that only feeds corrosion in coastal salt air.

How thick does my slab need to be?

That follows the load. A shed pad carries a fraction of the weight a garage or shop floor under vehicles and gear has to hold, so we match thickness and reinforcement to your actual use and account for the soft coastal ground and high water table below it.

Will a slab hold a hot tub, RV, or boat?

Yes. Those are heavy, concentrated loads, so we step up the thickness and the reinforcement and bring in rebar wherever the load truly asks for it. A boat or RV on Lowcountry ground also wants a level base that will not shift as the soil wets and dries with the tide, which makes drainage count every bit as much as the steel. Name the boat, RV, or rig and we build the pad to carry it.

Do I need a vapor barrier under the slab?

For enclosed or conditioned slabs, usually yes, since a high tidal water table and damp coastal ground drive moisture up through concrete. We make that call based on how the slab will be used.

Does a concrete slab require a permit?

Some do, depending on size, placement, and use, and the rules differ across the City of Savannah, Chatham County, and the smaller jurisdictions nearby, with extra review common inside the flood plain and the historic district. We call out when a permit looks likely so it gets handled early instead of surfacing mid-job.
